How do I verify an incomplete citation for a journal article?
Answer
PubMed's Citation Sensor offers an easy way to locate a citation even when you lack complete bibliographic information (e.g. author, title, year). To locate your specific citation, enter any or all of the following bibliographic elements: journal title, date, volume, issue, page, author into PubMed's search box. PubMed will look for matching citations.
PubMed also offers a Single Citation Matcher tool which uses a Web form to enter bibliographic information and search for matching citation(s).
Step by Step:
- Visit PubMed.
- Enter as much bibliographic information as you have for the citation into the search box. For example, enter the journal name, volume number, and author’s name.
- PubMed will return a list of citations matching the criteria you entered.
- You can also use the PubMed Single Citation Matcher tool. Use the Single Citation Matcher tool link at the bottom of the PubMed home page.
- Enter as much bibliographic information as you have for the citation into the form, then click Go .
- Single Citation Matcher will return a list of citations matching the criteria you entered.
